Sideritis syriaca, also known as Greek mountain tea, is a hardy and drought-loving plant that prefers full-sun locations with gritty, lean, calcareous soil.
It grows wild in the mountains of Turkey and Greece and is popular there for the tea preparation, for which one doused woody stems and leaves with boiling water and allowed to draw for 10 minutes. Approximately 10 g per liter of water gives a tea with pleasant, mild taste reminiscent of mint and cinnamon. The tea is also attributed strengthening of the immune system.
